Len Carella started working in ceramics in 1998 at Parsons School of Design in New York City midway through a 20 year career as a designer of footwear and leather goods. In February 2004, he was part of a group show at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center in Brooklyn, New York. His hand made pieces are one of a kinds as well as small scale production and often include leather, braided thread and cork details. He was selected to participate in the 2014 Fog Art & Design Fair in the 21Pop-up Shop, ‘In the Kitchen’. He currently works full-time from his San Francisco studio in high fire, cone 10 reduction in stoneware and porcelain, creating some of the most durable ceramic wares available.
In late 2014, one of his teapots was selected as ‘directors choice’ for the exhibit, ‘Southern Migration’ at AMOCA, The American Museum of Ceramic Art in Southern California. Recent projects include the ‘Marin’ stoneware kitchen collection for Waterworks, a custom line of teapots and tea service pieces for leavesandflowers.co and serveware for Octavia in San Francisco. He was invited to be featured in the ‘Hip-Pop’ pop-up shop at the American Craft Council Show in August, 2015 in San Francisco, where he won the Emerging Artist Award.
